If you want to start a business, you need goals. My first goal was to leave my corporate position by the end of 2009, and I managed to do it on the last business day of the year 12/30/09. My next goal was to have my own business by the end of 2010.
So here is my story…
At the end of 2009, I decided to step away from my position in the corporate world to start up my own business. I had a few ideas but nothing concrete. At that time I was helping a friend start up a robotics business, and I have continued to work with this particular business today. In addition I also began exploring purchasing an existing business, I investigated franchise opportunities, and I considered starting my own business.
I decided to start this blog, and it was originally entitled Adventures of a Soon to be Business Owner to document my journey into the world of business ownership and entrepreneurship. In the earlier posts, you will find posts covering my successes as well as my failures to help others avoid my pitfalls and hopefully find an easier path to owning your own business.
My blog has since changed from Adventures of a New Business Owner to the title I use today, the Wilkins Consulting Blog. Currently my blog content mainly focuses on data security, IT consulting, search engine optimization (SEO), website design, and social marketing. I continue to give advice and tips for small business owners, but the focus of my blog has changed from small business start-up advice to small business ownership advice. I think you will find my blog is mostly informational with very little promotional items, and if you wish to learn more about our offerings, please visit our site or contact us today. You can also learn more about my technical background here.
And please feel free to comment or offer your own advice on any of the posts.
